Passe Crassane

Large, uneven round to oval shaped fruit. Rough, pale greenish yellow skin. Slight orange flush and variable amount of rough brown russet. Creamy white, slightly granular, juicy flesh. Good flavour with a touch of acidity and a hint of aniseed. Requires a warm location and a good summer to ripen well. Should be picked a s late as possible.

Williams

Large fruits (225 to 250 g ) can be used in a fresh shape or processing, especially in making juice or very famous rakija ‘Viljamovka’. Fruits are pear-like and with prominences on the surface. The basic fruit colour is light green, and while ripening it becomes lime-yellow. The small brown lenticelas can be seen on the scarfskin. Flash has small grainy structure and very fine texture, yellow-white colour, sweet and juicy. it has a full taste with a specific, very srtrongly expressed muscatel arome and smell.

Abbe Fetel

Abbe Fetel pear was raised in about 1869 by Fetel in France and introduced in 1874. It produces large elongated fruit. The skin is yellow when ripe with a high proportion of golden russetting. It has white, juicy, melting flesh which turns slightly pink when ripe. Very sweet aromatic flavour. An excellent and delicious pear. Grown commercially to a small extent in France and Italy and occasionally available in shops in the UK where it is often sold under the Italian name Abbate Fetel. Needs a warm sheltered location for best results.

Beurré Hardy

Medium to large, round conical fruit. Rough, light green skin covered with a fine bronze russet. Not unlike a Doyenne du Comice in appearance. Occasional red flush. Creamy white, tender, juicy flesh. Sweet, aromatic flavour with a hint of rosewater. Vigorous, upright tree. Slow to come into bearing but good regular cropper particularly in a warm location. A very poor pollinator.

Santa Maria

This is a middle early summer cultivar which ripes 8 days before ‘Viljamovka’ in the middle of August. It has large to very large fruits, that weight 150 to 250 g and they have a flattened shape. Fruit’s skin gets secondary lime yellow colour, and on the exposed side it gets a nice red colour. Flash is juicy, aromatic, soluble, with a bit poor taste due to the lack of sugar. The smell is weak. The trunk has a lushy growth and is incredibly fertile. It blooms middle late. It’s middle sensitive to late spring frosts, and it’s sensitive to scab. It requires later and soft cutting. The fruit is short lasting and they quickly become mealy, so they can be kept in freezers up to 2 and a half months.

Poire de Curé

It gives large fruits (180 to 250 g). Fruits have a typical pear-like shape, their basic colour is yellow-green and while ripening it turns into strawy-yellow. Nice redness occurs on the exposed side. Flash is juicy, firm, white, sweet and a bit tart, without a special aroma and not very soluble. Often alongside the fruit appears a brown line or a slight dent. It’s resistant to late spring frosts, drought, and it middle sensitive to scab.

Watermelon pear

It has crimson flash that reminds of watermelon. It ripes from the middle til the end of August, and it gives fruits regularly. The fruit is middle large and pear-like. The scarfskin is green-yellow, and on the exposed side it’s covered with red coloration. Flesh is light red, juicy, sweet, a bit tart, with a pleasant aroma. As soon as it starts to overripe, it rottens and loses its characteristic red colour, but even then it’s still pleasant for eating.

Bella di Giugno

The tree is vigorous with an abundant and steady production the fruit is small and pear-shaped, yellow skin soft red and white flesh, sweet taste and preservation shortly. Characteristic is the fruiting cluster generally on lamburde.

Conference

Medium sized fruit. Even pyriform to calabasse shaped when cross-pollinated. The uneven, distorted, banana-shaped fruit, usually associated with this variety, are produced when self-pollination occurs. Self-pollinated fruit is also seedless. Pale green skin turning pale yellow. Variable amounts of golden brown russet patches. Juicy, smooth, pale yellow flesh occasionally tinged with pink near the core. Sweet pleasant flavour.

Butirra Précoce Morettini

It’s one of the best early pears that ripes at the end of july. It’s growth is middle lushy to lushy. Naturally it forms a wide pyramidal treetop. It blossoms early to middle early. It’s a diploid cultivar. It gives fruits early, regularly and bountifully. Fruits are middle large (140 g) and have a pear-like shape.
